Treatment

Our film opening sequence Revenge is a thriiler genred movie about a young boy who decides to take revenge on a girl for the Killing of his brother. However instead of seeking revenge on the person who commited this crime the boy (Lamar) decides to gain his revenge on the murderer's girlfriend who is completely oblivious about the whole situation.

The journey continues as vulnerbale Shannon who plays the girlfriend of the murderer is kidnapped during a sleepover with two friends (Monique and Larelle). She is thrown into the back of a car boot with three male's in the car. The driver then drives off into the dark road in confidence at full speed. What happens after this remains a mystery to the audience.

Our group decided to produce a storyline/plot that has a mystery at the end as this is appealing to our target audience. We wanted out target audience to be of an age group that this story line would come across as exciting too, and teenagers and young adults can regulate themselves to this well.

The opening sequence is filmed during the night making it less obvious for people in the scene to be aware of what is taking place within their surroundings. We chose to film the whole thriller opening sequence in Shannon's house and then on her road as her road is narrow and dark which was useful for when we were filming the scene of Shannon being kidnapped.

Filimg in her room helped to bring realism to the film as a girly sleepover was taking place. The colour of Shannon's room is bright pink so this was a great convention to use. Also the characters had no awareness of what was going to happen to Shannon as she opened the door, this was demonstrated well through the sleepover scene.

Questionnaire Responses

The questionnaire responses indicated to me that people of age groups between 16 and 24 are much more likely to go to the cinema to watch a film of a thriller genre rather than another genre such as romance which they would prefer to view at home.

The majority of the responses from the questionnaire showed that 40% of the people who go to the cinema are interested in the film depending on who is starring in the movie. However the other 60% tend to be interested in a film depending on how well the trailer and advertisements has caught their attention.

People also indicated that they like the genre "Comedy" which is interesting as most thriller films generally have a decent amount of comedy indulged in with the intense thriller. This is a good technique to use as it allows the audience to feel shocked during a moment where suspense is building and then allowing the audience to feel relieved and laugh when nothing actually happens yet. This can be classed as the disruption throughout the film.
